Top Five Things to Consider when Selecting Your Wedding Photographer

I would love to share with you a little guide to my Top Five Things to Consider when Selecting Your Wedding Photographer

1. What is your style?  Do you prefer more posed portraits? Or do you favor real life, in the moment type of wedding day photographs?  Some photographers offer a more fashion or portrait style photography— others more documentary.  When looking at the work of a photographer, can you see yourself in their images? I tend to be very heavily documentary with 90% of the moments from weddings being captured in real time and about 10% formal portraits.

2. What type of experience do you want from your photographer on the day?  Do you want to be directed into various poses throughout the day, or do you prefer to be in the moment and have your photographer be like a fly on the wall with minimal posing?   As a former photojournalist, it pleases me when couples say they didn’t even realize I was there and love the moments that were captured of them and their guests.

3. Can you feel the emotion when looking at the photos?   I believe that the best moments are genuine and authentic and it’s my job to be in the right position, with the right tools to make the viewer feel the emotion in front of my camera.  It is always unique because every wedding and every couple and their guests are different, so it’s up to me to capture that true emotion for them. In addition to peak emotion, are the images composed well allowing the viewer to immediately and easily “feel” or see the emotion in that image?

4. How long will the photographer be present at the wedding?  To truly tell the story of your day, I believe that the photographer needs to be present from the getting ready through the end of the events at the reception.  It’s one of the reasons that I offer full coverage on your day.  It makes it easier for you as you don’t have to worry about adjusting your timeline to accommodate the end of photography coverage.   And I feel that I am really doing a complete job by telling the story of your wedding.
